I started pulling apart a 1963 650 and noticed the lower unit did not match up to the middle casing. It would not shift in and out of gear while attached but with a 1/4 inch gap while lowering the unit it shifted fine. I don't think this is the original LU and would like help identifying it. The only numbers I found are in the casting inside by the trim tab bolt hole, it is 6123-6051. Also is there a web sight that has this info? Thanks.

Could that number on your unit unit be 1623-6051 if so it crosses to 1623-6052 and is off a late 60s 650 or 800

Laddies, the number is 1623-6052, my dyslexia kicked in between the garage and house-sorry and thanks for setting me straight. I was thinking however that based on the fact that it has a polished shaft, not steel, that it was a later 70's model. Appearence wise it looks just like the ones on my 64 and 68 650 motors. The LU pumps water and shifts so I don't want to scrap it, but someone obviously tried to rig it to this motor, the shift rod has been ground down, or cut or both (see photo). Is it possible that it was rebuilt and the shaft and wrong shift rod were added later? Thanks again.
