Help !!!1986 150 GT Boggs when I give it throttle!!

I have a 1986 Johnson 150 GT. It cranks great and idles good as well, but when I give it the throttle to take off, it boggs down on me. When I back out of it in neutral, I can rev it to max rpm's with no problem. Can someone give me some Ideas as to where to start?

First thing,NEVER rev it up without it in gear and in the water!
Sounds like the carbs are clogged or some type of fuel starvation going on.
When you pump the primer bulb it should get firm with no signs of leaks on the motor.
When were the carbs last removed,cleaned and new kits put in?

The primer bulb does need to be pumped evry 10 to 15 mins.
and I am 100% sure that the carbs have not been removed, cleaned and new kits replaced in atleast 2 years.

check compression and spark, if good, clean and rebuild the carbs with kits. replace your fuel lines with alcohol resistant fuel line, all of them. ethanol eats the old line, and it sluffs off settling in the bottom of the carb bowl clogging the high speed jets.

What should the compression be on that engine and what is the BEST way to check spark?

After you finish dont forget to put a water separating filter or at least a good inline filter so that you dont have to do this all over again next season.

any auto parts store will have one of these spark tester. set it a 1/2 inch.

I have somewhere to start now.
Since I know also that the carbs have not been cleaned and rebuilt in quite sometime, I am going to get the rebuild kits as well.

That block is not salvable with the crack that extends through the cylinder liner into the powerhead casting. Looks like that cylinder was run lean, or had too much timing. What are the head part numbers on the engine?

you have to make a choice now. break the motor down and sell parts to recoup some $$ or get a donor powerhead.
