I've got a simple question. I'm repairing the gearcase on my 25 hp Johnson, and I am replacing the drive shaft seal in the process. The old one that came out is deeper than the replacement seal. I can install the new one by pushing it in all the way down to the base of the gear case housing, thus leaving about a 1/8" recess, or I can install it leaving it flush with the top of the housing. I checked, and it is a genuine BRP replacement part with the proper number.
I'm not sure why it would make a difference, one way or another, but I thought I should ask just in case...
