Re: galvanized trailer rust

Grind it off to clean metal, then spot spray it with a galvanizing spray in a bomb can from your local hardware or auto parts store.

At the minimum, wear a mask when when grinding on something galvanized. The zinc vapor that is created from the pressure and heat of the grinder is toxic. If you'r only going to grind a spot the size of a quarter, you may just want to not directly breath the vapors, but for larger areas you should really wear a resperator.

Re: galvanized trailer rust

might try a small sanderblaster.they make sanderblasters for small spots.try a body shop.they might do that for a small price.if you grind that spot it will leave grinder marks.and that spray wont cover them.

good luck

Re: galvanized trailer rust

If the job is relatively small or in hard to reach laces where grinding is not possible, sand as much as possible and apply a good liquid rust transformer (not rust inhibtor). Rust transformer chemically transforms rust into a stable compound, turning it to a shiny black material that won't peel or chip. Enough needs to be applied to chemically react with the amount of rust to be transformed, it's easy to see after dry if completed. Rustoleum makes a good over-the-counter transformer. Paint over the tranformed area. Even if grinding to bare metal, I still use the transformer to make sure all rust has been removed, it acts as a primer.
