somethings not working. Is there a way to check the gauge and the sender to determine which is bad?

Re: fuel gauge question

Over 50 posts on this topic including diagrams had you used the "Search" function. The gauge itself is rarely the problem. The wiring is next in the order of probability and then the sender. To check the gauge, turn the key to RUN, then short the "S" terminal on the gauge to the "G" (ground) terminal or to a "known good ground". If the gauge pegs full the gauge is working. If not, verify that you have +12 volts and ground at the gauge. If that checks ok, disconnect the wire on the "S" terminal and measure the resistance between that wire and ground. If you have a rough idea how much fuel is in the tank the resistance should be 240 ohm = empty, 109 ohms = half full, and 33 ohms = full. All readings are give/take a bit. If no reading or way out of this range, repeat the test at the sender terminal on the tank. If readings are now normal, the wire between the sender and gauge is bad. If not, the sender is bad. Here is a diagram of the system.
