I have been told that the brown tint on the powerhead of this motor shows it was overheated. I am not able to get the type of power out of this motor I had hoped for.....bad top end power and overall lack of power. All cylinders check out with 120 to 125 pounds of compression. If this motor got real hot wouldnt the compression reflect the heat damage?

Re: Force 85/85 Overheating Damage

I have an 85HP force year 1987. I also have the brown stuff on the powerhead, but am not losing any performance from the engine.

Your top end speed should range between 30-35 mph. Thats what I get on a 17' deep v fiberglass boat.

The best thing I have ever done to my engine to make is perform better is do frequent decarbs. I like ValTec in the can sold at west marine or boaters world.
