US Marine or Force or Merc?
Year: 1987
Model # 1258X7A

Couple questons. First, I have the Seloc manual. Is there a better manual or is it enough?

Next question, What could cause the engines to stall when placed in the water on a load but runs fine on idle? On muffs, and in gear it does not stall. In the water in gear/load it stalls.

All cylinders have spark at idle. I verified this by the old screw driver in the plug trick.

A Clymer manual is better, more accurate, more model specific than the seloc.

In the water, in neutral - it runs, until you put it under load?

Check compression.
Also check sparkplugs for signs of a lean running cylinder.

A carb overhaul may do the trick, or, it could be much worse.

I've searched for the Clymer Repair manual site. Can't seem to find them. Are these manuals made by someone else?

Thanks

Go to your local mercury dealer they will order you one. Save $10 and buy one on ebay.

I would replace the Fuel Pump Diagphragm also on that motor, just had the same problem on my old 88 force 125. That was the cause. Its pretty cheap, and you can find it in Iboats.com.

Compressions are good on both motors (140-145).

Things to do:

Rebuild Carbs
Replace fuel diaphrams
Replace Plugs

anything else...

I read here somewhere about "link and sync?" Can someone elaborate please?

could it be as simple as a semi clogged fuel filter?...runs well with no load..so just enough fuel getting thru...but not enough fuel under load...always eliminate the cheap stuff 1st...

Yea, if I purchase the boat i'll do a fuel system and carbs rebuild. The owner wants 8500 for it. I don't think it's worth that much. If he give me 3500 then I'll bite. Engines are useless at this point so the price must reflect so.

I'll post back if I get the craft. Otherwise, I'm looking to purchase a project boat in South Florida for now.

Thanks for the tips given everyone. Great site!!
