Exhaust coming out back of lu?

Any ideas why this is happening since i replaced the impeller?
it doesn't seem to come out the prop but bubble out of the back of the lower unit where the shift hook tilt release bar comes out from.

Its an 1964 merc 1000

Guess you gotta drop her and have a look. Really doesn't make a lot of sense....that problem with what you did. You only have 3 things to connect and they have nothing to do with exhaust.

It could be that the rubber for the bottom of the exhaust tube is not positioned correct or missing, or the exhaust tube is not up in the motor correctly. Drop the LU and see if any of these are not as they should be. JMO
