Evinrude fuel tanks

I noticed my factory 5 gal. tank doesn't have a vent on top of the cap to loosen while operating engine. It looks like it has one but you cannot loosen it. I just bought a 6 gal. tank that has a vent you can open. Does this vent need to stay closed for proper operation or do I open it when running engine?

Yes you have to vent the tank. Open the vent 3 turns. This replaces the used fuel with air. Otherwise the tank will begin to collapse in (implode). Some tanks have self venting caps. Your factory tank may be like this. If the tank has a vent screw, it should be used.
