I am rebuilding my 1977 Evinrude 70HP using a Clymer manual (live in Australia, cant get an OEM). It says to use new rod bolts but does not mention locktite, why? Isn't good practice to use loctite on rod bolts?

Thanks, the forum is great

It's not necessary. A drop of 50:1 oil is good, a drop of transmission fliud is even better.

If you tighten them to proper torque, they will not loosen. If you tighten them to proper torque plus locktite, you'll never get them back out. It stresses a good thin wall socket almost to the breaking point to remove them as it is.
