Hi guys as you may know my current set up is a 1975 chris craft tri hull. With a merc 140 hooked to a 270-280 volvo penta drive. Now they have it set up by useing a a flex plate (i belive thats what is the part the input shaft hooks into on a M/T) Then sercuring the engine to the bell housing. my question is there year of the motor is 72-75 is there another engine V form that would fit the bell housing and use the same flex plate on the flywheel to swap this one out? would a 4.3L v6 or 5.0 be longer or shorter then my current long block 3.0 because space is limited. I also already have the side mounts installed in this boat for a v setup. Maybe that was the engine that was hooked into it before.

here is my list of goals of this thread/

-Is there an engine that would fit this bell housing?
-Mounts the correct ones?
-How can i tell what ratio my penta out drive is? it does still have what looks to be the SN or PN number imprinted on the very upper part of the drive.

Thanks Ryan

Ayuh,.... Chevies only use 1 bellhousing flange bolt pattern, 'n 2 different flywheel diameters....

So, ya, another Chevy will bolt up, with the right flywheel...

Re: Engine swaps?

I'm pretty sure the 3.0 is different than a Chevy V6/V8
