On a Mercruiser 4.3 V6 1996 I have just changed the distributer rotor arm, plugs, coil and fuel seperating filter after a backfire problem.

On initial turnover the boat wouldnt start. After repeated turnover it finally fired up. Is this normal? Would it take a while for the fuel to filter through?

Didnt you pre-fill the water sep first? If not it might take a minute or two

I didnt. Thanks. Would the fuel pump not fill it up straight away on ignition?

Not always...right after replacement. I don't always preload my fuel filters, but know I'll have to wait for the initial startup.

Just like when you change your car's oil filter...then freak out when the oil gauge shows 0 pressure, for a few seconds!

If you keep having a 'hard to start' issue, you will have some other problem(s).
