Engine history/info

Someone on here helped me with info before on an engine, I just can't remember who. I have what I THINK is a 70 hp Mercury, MAYBE '80 model??? The tag is B189651. Any info would be appreciated.

Your s/n comes up as:

MERCURY - ( 45 H.P. (1987 ))
Serial No: 0B189651 Model No: 1045727

I'm sure YOUR info is correct, I think the info I provided is wrong. Only because I don't think this is a 40 h.p. engine. I took a pic of the tag, maybe you can make it out better than I can (old eyes and all). The "9" COULD be a "7" or a "0", which would make the s/n B187561 or B180561. I also took a pic of a tag that's on the engine block..whether that is re-searchable or not, I have no idea.

LOL..how do I know for SURE it's a 70, and not a 75???

If it is 0B180651, it comes up as:

MERCURY - ( 70 H.P. (1987 ))
Serial No: 0B180651 Model No: 1070727

If you want to confirm the s/n, you can look at the right side of the engine block for a disc like this:
