So today I had my friend tag along for an afternoon fishing trip, and while loading the boat, he hooked up the battery wrong, and when I went to start it nothing...
Not turning over, nothing. Battery is fine as all the lights hooked to it are working, and I was able to start the motor by pull start and we ran all afternoon trolling no problems.
Since this is a 30 year old M40C, should I be looking at the rectifier or do you think the starter solenoid is cooked, or something else?

The rectifier's only purpose is to convert AC from the motor to DC to charge the battery, so it is not part of the starting circuit. The solenoid is protected by a 15-amp glass fuse, which would typically blow before anything else. Check/replace that fuse (as GA suggested), and then check that you can start OK, and are charging.
