So I was searching Netflix looking for more movies to put in my queue and decided to search for fiberglass repairs for giggles. Actually one DVD came up so I put it in the queue and decided to see what it was about.
Fiberglass repairs made easy: Fiberglass GelCoat Damage: Vol 1
-It's 55 minutes in length.
-Filmed in 1997
-They are making a repair to a crack in the fiberglass on a Nitro bass boat at the stern.
-They show a step by step method to repairing this crack, including moving it rearward on the trailer.
The good:
-Visual step by step method for people like me that learn better watching than reading.
-Shows that the average Joe with the average tools can do this repair.
-The video shows the application of GelCoat not paint being reapplied.
-It's available on Netflix
The bad:
-The repair method used are different than most of the experts on here recommend.
-The materials used are different than most of the experts on here recommend.
-The mixing of resin was not precise. He poured resin in a cup then grabbed the catalyst and poured some in it without measuring.
-If I were to repair my boat going strictly off the video, I think it would not be as good as the original hull structurally.
The ugly:
-Horrible production value. I have seen budget porn with better production.
-Camera angle isn't the best at all times.
-The guys "safety equipment" isn't exactly up to par.
I would love for some of the experts who have either seen this video, or have a Netflix account to watch it and expound on this review. I feel this video might teach of what not to do when repairing a hole. On the bright side, it was filmed in Texas, or at least that was where the boat was from.
