An SCR doesn't care what type of switch you are using. In some instances, you may not even have a switch. In others, you may have multiple switches.

Can you describe more what you are trying to do?

I disconnected the VSR with out remembering to take a picture or identify what wires go where, I don't seem to be able to figure it out. the 3 way switch is still connected as it was. I have 3 wires to connect to the VSR. two reds and one black one red goes to a terminal on the 3 way (they are not identified on the back and I have not taken a meter to it yet (which I plan to do) another red goes to the voltage regulator (I think) and the black goes to the alternator (I believe). I"ve never been so frustrated by 3 wires. It seems it should be simple. Thanks

Typically, a VSR has one lead that goes to the positive of one battery, the other goes to the positive of the second battery. The black lead goes to ground.
