Being invaded by black ants, possibly carpenter ants. NW lower Mi. Leelanau county if that helps. Sandy soil area primarily with about a foot of top soil. The house is on the edge of an old farm field where it abuts to a wood lot. Shady and somewhat moist for the most part.

I have been thinking of buying some kind of spray or something for around the house and the sill plate.

Anyone have good luck with a certain product? Care to share?

I'd call the bug guy but he is terrible about returning calls and such. I live too far out in the sticks to get a national brand type of service affordably.

I sure appreciate anyone's thoughts and experiences.

Had good results with baking soda puffed from a squeeze ball at the base boards. Regular black ants though. Carpenter ants will colonize any void.

borax and anti-freeze. basically boracare, however make it yourself (google the instructions)

trench around your house about 6" wide x 8" deep

spray the trench

back fill the trench

works to keep wood from rotting, keeps away ants and termites and beetles and other crawlies
