I just bought a Sea Pro SV1700 with a Suzuki DF70 four stroke on it. The boat is rated 115 HP max, I am wondering if I may be a little under powered. I won't know until spring when she goes in the water. In looking at the Suzuki product information, the DF70/80/90 all seem to be the same engine with different Horse power ratings. So what makes them different ?? Just the ECM ?? Can a DF70 be goosed to 80HP or even 90HP.

Ususally carb jets and exhaust. Add more fuel and allow more air flow.
but maybe lots of other things to.
If you want more hp it is best to buy a larger one

The engines in question are EFI 4 strokes.

You don't mention years, but in the early 2000s the DF70 shared block, etc with the DF60 and the DF90 with the DF115. I do not know anything about a DF80. . .never heard of it.

It would be prohibitively expensive to try to convert between models. Those are computer controlled, OHC, EFI engines.
