Got this motor 2 years ago and it had brand new plugs already installed.
Motor runs perfectly. Plugs look normal for my low hour usage .Plugs are QL78c
Thinkin replacing them this year as pm .I assume these are not marine plugs.
Is a copper ring the only difference?? Are marine worth 2x the price?? BTW
I have assumed these are the correct plugs.....guess one should never assume..

the complete model # usually
just because someone says it is a 2000 does not always mean it is a 2000, seen that many times on here

There is a label on the side of the motor that gives the model identity. That is what is needed. Looks something like this.

SX200TXRY is the model. Which tells us much more than just Saltwater Series II. In less words. lol

The spark plug that is specified by Yamaha for your model is an NGK BR7HS-10. Four bucks a pop at Advance Auto.

Thanks, looks like the NGKs are same price as Champs so I ordered on ebay
$20 for 6 free shipping. I always viewed NGKs as the best plugs.Charlie

Hey Boscoe, quick question...Where did you get that spark plug info from??? I picked up the designated plugs with your info back then and now Im getting around to changing them out and when I doublechecked I saw that the plug it calls for is a BR8HS-10 , the 7s looked like there were for a smaller motor? do you remember where you saw that?? Thanks Charlie

Information comes from the Yamaha service manual and owner's manual.

Thanks ,but what I was asking is where you got that particular info from?
I recently bought a service manual and it calls for BR8hs-10. Just wanting to know where you saw it? Not sure I am comfortable leaving those plugs installed and I literally just installed them right after cranking up after winter storage.Charlie

was that a Yamaha service manual or an aftermarket one?

Boscoe said the Yamaha service manual and owner's manual

by the way you mentioned copper ring on some plugs,
copper and aluminum do not get along well touching each other

What is the document number for your service manual? This is what I have seen.

I got the plug # from Clymer manual and from the designation from SIM Yamaha.I looked at the plug specs looked to be the same except for the heat range the BR7 is a 7 and BR8 is an 8. Not sure it matters much??? Charlie

Thanks again,I guess either plug will do.Here is an answer directly from NGK..
Hello Chas,

Thank you for contacting us! NGK 1134 BR8HS-10 Nickel Spark Plug is the recommended part for your 2000 200hp Yamaha 2 stroke outboard model SX200TXRY.

NGK 1098 BR7HS-10 is 1 step hotter.

Best Regards,
Murphy
