Control Cable

When installing the control cable, 1986 260, and you find zero position and turn 4 times?

do you turn 4 times to preload the cable and push the dogs tight or,

turn 4 times the other way, set the dogs loose, and let the dog hook pull it in? Thanks

Manual 6 page 6A-21 says turn barrel away from cable end

So when the shift cable is in gear, without load, we should be out about 1/8 inch from fully engaged shift dogs?

Thanks, been doing it that way, but I viewed a wrong Tub Vid and had to check. Beware, measure twice. Ed
