Don told me my engine is a 1995 a few weeks back. Why wiould my valve covers say Vortec on them. VOrtecs didnt come into boats until 96 correct? Is there a whay to tell if it was changed over to vortec heads if that is possible. If it has been changed over does that change my 180hp at the prop that I thought I had.

I would start with the engine serial number...

They used the term Vortec for several years before they had the Vortec heads in 96. I've got a 93 that also has vortec stamped on the valve covers. There was a thread about this subject some time ago.... you might do a search on it or someone that knows the history will chime in. Might have started using the term when they put the balance shaft in.
