Choke Switch is INOP

When I push my choke button in on my 1990 Susuki 115, the solenoid only twitches a little but does not engage. This is what I have done so far, disconnected the wire to the solenoid and ran a straight hot wire to it, the solenoid engaged as designed. Then I measured the voltage at the wire leading to the solenoid, it was the same as the hot wire I hooked straight to the solenoid. I am out of ideas, could it be the switch?, dirty connections somewhere?, what should I try next. Thanks guys

sounds like switch, but could be faulty connections. Check all!

Think of it as a bucket of water is voltage, but water coming out of a firehose is amperage. They're both water, but one is under pressure. You may have measured 12 volts, but when you used the switch, you lost amperage and don't have enough to trigger the solenoid. Check the voltage with the solenoid hook up and have someone else push the key in.
