So I am going to replace my oil pan on the v8 I am building because it is in poor shape. Starting looking online and LO and Behold found places selling "Marine" oil pans. So is this legitimate? If so what is the difference between your run of the mill junk yarder and a marine oil pan? My oil pan has what looks like a baffle that i am guessing keeps the oil from frothing. I have seen something about dip stick but can not remember what that was about.

Re: chevy oil pan

no such thing as a marine oil pan.
Yes the pan should have a windage tray in it. It doesn't matter if it's part of the pan or bolts on to the block/mains. But it should have some kind of tray.
The dipsitck on a V6-V8 connects down to the drain hole with some special hardware.

The only differance is the drain plug. For some reason the marine ones are dead flat on the bottom where as an auto is on the bend.
