Now that the covers are made and snapped in, it is such a pain in the butt to lower the drive. I have to lower the drive once I get it into my garage so that the whole trailer fits. I decided to add a momentary toggle switch in the aft end of the boat to remotely lift and lower the drive.

Looking at the pump assembly, and it’s related wiring, a single pole double throw momentary switch would do the job.

I decided i would incorporate a switch for LED task lights, (previously hooked up to the court light circuit), as well as a power indicator. The power indicator is to ensure I turned my disconnect switch the right way since I’m using two batteries. I often times am turning my power off in the dark.

The switches were mounted to an excess piece of white vinyl I had laying around my garage. The switches were installed with rubber water proof boots.

This switch will definitely make life easier for me. Instead of unsnapping the cover near the control station and climbing up my trailer to precariously reach my control, I can now lower or raise my drive in the rear of the boat.

Very Nice! I like it!

I was thinking of doing something similar, but even thought about mounting it at the transom so I can lower/raise the drive without removing any of my boat cover. Yours would definately last longer being still inside the boat.

Thanks man!! I would need to get to my battery switch to turn everything on/off when operating the drive. I don’t like to leave my battery on when trailering. So I have to at least open the back few feet of my cover anyway. I figured this was as good a spot as any. Sure will make life easier in the long run.

Nice! For those who don't want to customize their own switch, you can also get a Mercruiser weatherproof switch kit to mount on the transom or wherever. Not as cool as designing your own, but pretty darn easy to install... No wires to cut/splice.

I recently acquired the same boat in the same color, (it was free) but its a complete basket case. I too need to do the floor and stringers and well, just about everything. I just finished gutting everything and am at the grinding stage. Do you have a list of all the fiberglass materials and quantity's? I tried making a list through reading the posts but I'm not sure at which points you got more materials and how much. My supplier is a 4hr drive away and shipping is rather expensive so the trip is worth it but I would rather only go once. I am in Canada so the fiberglass store isn't a reasonable option.

:welcome: to iBoats. . .

You will want to have your own thread for your restoration work and questions. So, you may want to start a new thread now and post up some pictures.

I don’t really have a list other than what I posted. I think I was in the neighborhood of about 18 gallons of resin. I used 1708, and 1.5 oz CSM.

I started with 10 gallons of resin and went back twice. I was more worried about the shelf life of the resin, so I wanted to get fresh. My supplier was only 2 hours away. I too avoided the shipping costs.

Wow, that’s cool. Had no idea that kit even existed. Thanks for the info!!!

I really HATE putting holes in my boat. In this case I wanted to add a horn. My Chaparral has a horn, it was just screwed under the dash. Honestly it scared me when I pressed the button since it was pointed at me. I guess it must have satisfied some USCG rule, but really wasn’t effective. Well, I changed that!!

The boat ran great all last summer. We took it to the river almost every weekend. We made a couple trips up to Bald Eagle, which is a nice little lake just south of State College. Our last trip we went to Raystown Lake October 27th, so we extended boat season to it fullest.

Once I put the drive on the boat, I realized that the shift shaft was installed improperly. Only discovered that when it wouldn’t go into gear. :mad-new:

Split case, fixed stupid mistake, reassemble, put drive back on boat, look up shift cable adjustment on YouTube, (love the Aussie accent BTW), job complete.

Lesson learned: check the gear lube level in the outdrive a few times during the year.
