Where is a good reputable place to get a carburetor for a 5.7 mercruiser. I was thinking of rebuilding it but it's a 1990 regal 225sc so it's been on the boat a while. The engines idles good on trailer but when I get into the water if I don't turn the idle screw up to 1000 rpms it will die when I put it in gear. Also the other day I was at the lake running about 3600 rpms for a good 10 mins straight and when I dropped it back to neutral the idle stayed at 3000 rpms. I started backing off the idle screw and it eventually dropped to abt 800 rpms but then it was hard to start. I'm thinking the carburetor is in need of rebuilt or replacement

Agree its in need of a rebuild but if your able to do it, I would just replace it. Finding a quality rebuilder in your area we would first need to know where your at.

Before spending any money, check a few other things.
1. Compression test.
2. Spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and spark wire condition.
3. Spark quality.
4. Fuel quality and filters.
5. Ignition timing and advance curve.

Any problems with any of those will do what you are seeing.

Yes, it's most likely the carb, but the checks above are free and if it is one of them, saved your money....
