carbon after long troll

1987 rinker v190 165 merc. sputs and sputters after 6hr troll. will clear up, but not until after a large cloud of carbon... any thoughts? Postman...

Tune it up and adjust the carb. Sounds like it's running a bit rich.

I/O's don't like long low rpm runs, give it some gas once in a while.

Better yet, get a small outboard for LOOOOOOONG hours of trolling, and save the main engine.

Ayuh,... Or use over-sized drift socks, 'n bump it up to a grand or so...
