Can anyone tell me what year and hp this motor is?

I recently acquired an outboard motor and I was told it is a Mercury but there is no way to tell because they have painted over everything on the motor... The only numbers I can find on the motor are 1497-8793.... Is this enough info to tell? Or where else do I need to look for numbers? Thank you!

That set of numbers appears to be a casting # off one of the parts on it.-----Post a picture of your motor.

Mercury Motor year? HP? Specs?

I have a mercury motor that i have recently acquired and i was just wondering if anyone on here could tell me what it was by looking at it? the person i got it from has spray painted it and i can't find a serial number on it anywhere. and also he said it had been winterized.. what does it mean to have an outboard motor winterized and how i de-winterize it? Thanks!!

Can anyone tell me the year and hp that motor is? And if it is a 4 stroke or 2 stroke? What gasil ratio I need to use? And how to de-winterize it?

What numbers are stamped on the circled welch plug? And what does the sticker on top of the flywheel cover say?

Roughly 84 - 86/87 25 hp mercury 2 strk 50-1 gas mix. Winterize by running out of fuel spraying fogging oil into the motor and change the lower unit lube.

That sticker is on top of the flywheel... I will go look at the bolt to check the numbers, will post numbers soon

Sorry it;s an 18/20/25 hp merc, sticker on the recoil won't help you. Silver welch plug might
