My old Bravo 3X drive have normal problems, long shifting time to forward. Very heavy flybridge boat and single d-tronic 300 V8 engine.

Im not sure about age of my drive, maybe around 2000+? S/N starts 0W228.... and 1589-864571C stamp is in drive shaft housing. Maybe manual #28 is correct for my drive?

Drive is now disassembled and clutch is done for sure. Gears are ok? Shifter fork have serious wear and must be replaced, what caused that?
Clutch seems to be a new model?, so i can order only clutch without gears? Please see photos.

I'm first timer with bravos, i would appreciate good advice and tips. Thank you very much.

Should you happen to have to order any parts it will be much more helpful to know your full serial number as with doing a general info search with the info provided seems to show you have what Mercruiser considers a Diesel stern drive which ought to have slightly different internal components vs a standard B-3-X stern dive.

Putting some numbers together like for example 0W228791 came up with MERCRUISER BRAVO 3 X 1.81:1 DIESEL DRIVE...https://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/parts/10269_30.cfm?mdl=ORL6T5

Maybe an another option to consider trying might be using lapping compound on the gear surfaces....Also search online lapping compound bravo 1 gears for others like the following,

Found new problem on lower unit. I think this is old crack.
I try to refurbish gear surfaces and buy new clutch and shift fork. Maybe it works next season, if crack is getting worse or clutch slipping again then i have to think buying new bravo 3x unit.

Common crack area from housing corrosion. If you are handy you can get a good used housing swap your internals. That’s what my buddy did with identical crack On his B3. I think the housing set him back a grand, ultimately he added a second mercathode with puck like transom anodes seems to have stopped his corrosion issues.

Note: the B3X, is a Bravo X upper and standard B3 lower. The X part is only the upper section.

If your going to try and use it next season, clean it up and put some JB weld on it to help keep water out. Best to just replace it now
