Hello, here in a couple weeks i will be going to Laughlin for a weekend and wanted to bring my newly restored boat down to see what boating the Colorado river is all about. It is a 15 foot fiberglass with a 50hp Mercury on it. It runs strong and tops out at about 35 on good day at a calm lake. Anyways, trying to find info about boat launches in the area of laughlin as well as need to know rules such as where to anchor and do I need to buy any special registration/fishing license as I am from Arizona. I am also worried about the current in this area just after Davis Dam, I am not sure how fast the current is. Anyways if you can let me know I would appreciate it!

I worked in Bullhead City for about a year and went out with a friend on his bass boat and also rode the hotel river shuttles alot. The currents and water levels fluxuate often, so I can't offer much advice for when you launch.

The Laughlin Riverside Hotel has a launch near the bridge and there is also several to the south. It's been many years but at the time I was there it seemed like the AVI on the Nevada side was the place to be. If I remember correctly, it's about 10 miles south of Laughlin.

Anybody have any input on if my 50hp 15' glass boat would be powerful enough to a couple miles up and down the river around Laughlin area? Any past experiences?

Your 50hp, will be fine for a day on the river. I agree AVI is the spot I would go also. Nice beach, launch & dock if you decide to leave it in overnight. I like it because it has an rv park but the hotel is reasonable at the right time of the year. If your going to fish you might need a river stamp check with a local shop.

Enjoy,

Do you guys happen to know whether or not you can use the AVI launch if you are not staying there. I already have a room booked at harrahs.

Hi,
Just some info: We launched PWCs at the Riverside free launch, but I wouldn't recommend it. The water runs pretty fast and there are too many rocks and very narrow when you set your boat in. Just my opinion. You might want to cross the bridge,go to the other side of the river(Arizona) and use Davis Camp or the city launch. The distance is only about a 5 min drive from the Riverside hotel and Casino Dr. The gas is cheaper in Arizona also. Have Fun! Also check what time they open and shut the dam. It changes the water level greatly if you go far down towards Needles.
