I bought a completely gutted Blue Fin Spectrum 16' and am converting to tiller. And I am absolutely spending money so I have exactly what I want.:)
My question is: how do I attach the 2?2 wood braces for the floor without attaching it from the outside? I dnt want any more rivets or holes in the side. Thanks

Something else - 3M 5200 or 4200 should provide substantial bond to the hull. You may have to shape the wood to the curve of the hull.

What exactly is that?
3M 4200/5200 is an adhesive/caulk that comes in a typical caulk tube size.

3M 5200 is best for stuff you likely NEVER want to remove, and is described as permanent. 4200 is similar, but not quite as permanent.

Just in case
What exactly is that?
was for me,

If you're sole or any of your deck needs bracing why use wood that will rot when you could use either some aluminum strip or angle?

BTW manners -

:welcome: to iboats Marty!

Nice blank slate ya got there, be interesting to hear your plans for it beyond making it a tiller.

Thanks I will look into that!!
Was just gonna spread epoxy on the wood, but maybe that won't work?
I have tons of ideas how I want to set it up & from what I wrote down so far I'm gonna spend $5k+ if I buy everything new.
Will post pics periodically

Wood coated in epoxy will last but not as long as aluminum coated in nothing :D

Plus depending what structure you're going to build there should be a weight saving.

Down side is cost I know, but if you figure in the epoxy cost and time to apply I bet it's break even.

My HD and Lowes both carry aluminum angle in multiple lengths as do Ace Hardware tractor supply and a couple mom and pop hardware stores

Not even sure that's the same boat, paint looks great!

BTW I see a caption about paint on one of the pics but can't read it all so you may want to repost the info just as text for the whole class to see.

Yea I tried to edit that, but no success:( will just rewrite.
Ok so far on the Blue Fin for the bottom I have
1 coat Aquaguard 181 Primer
2 coats Interlux Trilux 33 white, with the 1st coat brushed and the rest will be rolled.
For the topside I have 1 coat Interlux Pre Kote so far. It is brushed on & looks pretty thick, so I think I'm gonna start the 1st coat Brightside Polyurethane and continue with at least 3 coats. So far going great!!

Going to agree that Aluminum is the way to go. 1.5"X1.5" angle works in most cases. 2'X2" if long expanses. I also believe the big box stores carry aluminum square tube that can also be used.

Also would like to see and hear more detail on your paint.

Well what brand paint was it, what method did you use to apply it, how many coats? How much paint did it take?

I now see that the paint was Brightsides. What do you think of it? Hard to use?
