Best way to clean a gear lube monitor

Got some green 'gunk' at the bottom of mercruiser bravo 2 Gear Lube monitor, what's the best way to clean this crap out

Summerwind, Remove the rmonitor container and use some solvent (acetone, paint thinner, gasoline) to loosen and remove the gunk. Make sure it is dry and then reinstall.
