Benefits of going to EST Distributor?

OK, I can't seem to find a lot of information on this, people say it is an upgrade, but wanted to find out what the actual differences are in going from a 1988 points distributor to a later model EST. My guesses are:

1) More consistent timing (no mechanical advance weights)
2) More consistent dwell
3) Stronger spark?

I know a lot of people have done this, but can I get specific feedback on this if anyone has time?

Thanks.

Who makes a Marine approved distributor with no mechanical advance? I looked around and couldn't find one. I found several with electronic points, though.

The Delco EST has no mechanical advance.
