I'm replace both of my batteries (starting and deep cycle). I have a 1992 5.7L Mercuiuser (carborated). I have battery group 24.
A chart that Don provided specifies a minimum 375cca 475mca and 90 ah for my engine starting battery. Do I need to meet all of these mimimums or just one of them? Am I correct that the higher the cca rating the better? So long as its a 12V marine battery (size 24) is there any risk that what I buy is too powerful? I don't want to blow something out. I'm considering one that is 700 cca but I'm not sure about the amp hours.
Thanks

Re: battery replacement question

The higher cranking amps won't damage anything. Its still 12 volts. The battery with the higher cranking amps will just be able to handle greater current demands (i.e. spin a honda civic engine verses a great big diesel engine).
