Lets put something together I am sure with all the complants on the outboard repair we could do this. I belive mercury purchased Force in the early 90s from usmarine once Chrysler. Lets say 94-2000 force outboards which Mercury built. Mercury has plenty of money We would like a credit towards new pwr.

Re: Attorneys (class action Mercury(force) engine)

I have been the recipient of checks from three class action law suits.

One was from Chevrolet when I had a 1973 truck and the gas tank could explode...I got a voucher for a $1000 discount for a new truck...never used it.

Then I got one from a credit card company, Providian, for bad practices or something and it was $.89

Lastly the one from State Farm Ins. $8.42

A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!!

It is a way for attorneys to get huge fees and causes the companies to spend fortunes to defend themselves. I say let consumers control the future of the company by choosing not to buy inferior products and spend the rest of the time boating!!

Amen Capt. Bob.

However, on the Chevy truck deal, my brother-in-law had option of $1000 on new vehicle or $100 cash. Did you not get same offer?

BL...

Have to agree with ya Capt. Bob... p.s. nice Roamer.. Now To Fishmaster: If you think the cost of a new outboard is ridiculous now, why would you want to pull a stunt like that.. I hope you understand who pays for it in the end... Guys like me who do a little homework BEFORE we buy a motor.. Thats who... IT'S NOT MY FAULT YOUR FORCE IS JUNK...

From where I sit, it appears that most of what is wrong with our country stems directly from the legal business. I hope there are enough honest lawyers to make a positive differance someday. And no I'm not interested in suing Merc. Thanks anyway.

in my opinion the only one needing a law suit against them is the new fishmaster
all i ever hear about the force engines is trouble
maybe i found a good one or maybe i just do the maintenance correctly and when it is time
ive found if you look after stuff the way it is supposed be looked after it almost never lets you down
i bought a 1989 maxum bowrider with a force 85 horse on it 2 years ago
i got it from the original owner who had told me he only used the boat 4 times and the rest of the time it sat in the garage
ive got maybe 400 hrs on the motor now and i havnt yet had an ounce of truouble with it other then runnign out of gas
but then i do the maintanance to the motor religously
those were 400 hard hours too so anyone that is screaming about there force i have no sympothy for
mines been great

Fish, you and people like you are whats wrong with society today. Blame others (and make them pay) for your ignorance. Did Force hold a gun to anyones head and make them buy a motor...No. Would you go buy a Escort and sue Ford, claiming it diddnt last as long as a BMW?

Who do you think pays for these frivolus suits? You and Me. When we buy anything produced by Merc it now costs more.

It is your obligation to do your homework before a purchase. When you dont and buy a entry level product, dont blame the company for filling a nich.

Are you aware of the reputation the US has in other countries? 'A place where you can sue anybody for anything and the only winners are the attorneys'. Be ignorant and blame somebody for it. Smokers claiming they did not know about tobacco hazards. Overweight people claiming they did not know that junkfood is junk. Naive...

Do you believe - in some of their countries you do not stand a chance unless you really have a case.. obviously redicolous cases are rejected before even filed.

Take off leach!! ;)

I would be the first to stand up for Force AGAINST you and your self indulging suit.

I have had a force 120hp for 4 years - I have properly maintained it - no problems - NONE whatsoever!! :)

Up to 1999 when Force became no longer available, especially if your boating was only seasonal (3-4 months per year), IMHO the Force outboard was simply the best buy for your buck (notice I didn't say BANG!!). :p

Go back to the drawing board and come up with another scheme - this one won't fly.

Good luck, Fish!!!! Let us know how it turns out, in say.......about 15-20 years. Mercury probably has more lawyers in it's back pocket than the amount of fish you've caught in your life! And that's taking for granted that you can catch um. Can you imagine the idiots out there that have probably tried sueing Merc because their boat, which was powered by a Merc, got into an accident and caused severe damage or killed someone.

You would probably have better luck suing Osama Bin Laden because he messed up the Baseball schedule.

I sure do wish that the outcome of frivolous lawsuits would be that the plaintiff had to cough up the amount sought to the defendant.

This thread really belongs in NTDWB. :)

Ditto JB,

The English lawsuit rules would bankrupt half the lawyers in this country. It wouldn't bother me a bit.

I Europe, looser lawyers gets no fees, plus plantiff will have to pay court fees and expenses if they don't win.

Why we don't do same here in this country?

I'ts time to stop the bloodsucking-easy-money-lawsuit game....

Re: Attorneys (class action Mercury(force) engine)

Well, I was the defendant in an unjust lawsuit once. I won. The plaintiff had to pay court costs and my attorney.

What I meant is that the plaintiff should have had to pay me the 10 Grand he was sueing for. :)

Re: Attorneys (class action Mercury(force) engine)

Well as a Force owner have have to put my two cents in of course. Especially since other admirals have. So it seems safe to post.
I cannot really say Force is a good buy for the money. Not that I have ever had any problem with my 96 force 90. But I am mechanically inclined and I take care of my motor with strict maint. Them problem is that most first time boat owners buy the cheapest boat they can find which until just recently came with a Force. As a result these new boat owners don't have a clue when it comes to maint or they would have purchased a used quality boat with a different motor. So now they own a new boat with a Force and sure enough it breaks down because they ran it all day a wide open throttle.
So in conclusion a person who owns a force should know how to take care of there motor. As a rule of thumb when I go out in the ocean with my force I always make sure my kicker motor is running with a full tank of gas, My vhf radio is working, and I have a full charge on my cell phone and I never get out further than sight of land. I have a saying; Force isn't a bad motor it's there owner who is bad.
:D

Re: Attorneys (class action Mercury(force) engine)

when a company markets a product like force which is junk, they should be held liable for suckering in an unsuspecting public. when u purchase a product you're assuming the product is well designed, safe, etc. don't blame attorneys for going after outfits like merc. that make millions of $$$$ in profits from selling sh**. as far as merc. having plenty of lawyers, that's true. that's how they can get away with scewing the public. i.e., most people don't have the $$$ to hire an attorney to take on a big corp. u think merc. & other corporate giants don't know that? and no, i'm not a lawyer. lawyer bashing is a favorite pastime of some people, fueled by corporate america's propoganda machine, because they don't want to be held accountable for their misdeeds.
