Thinking of buying a 1988 200 hp Suzuki for a really good price. I have owned many Johnson/Evinrudes and Mercs but never a Zuke and don't know of anyone who owns one to ask. Are the Zukes dependable engines?

Yes.

However, any 18 year old engine may have been neglected and/or abused to near death.

That could happen to any of them. Check the compression and gearcase lube.

I agree with JB ..... great motors, but all engines need to be looked after .....

I bought a 1991- 25hp with a blown head gasket. Had it fixed, runs great. Carbs got dirty form rusting gas tank, had carbs clean for $116. per carb, I have 3, ouch! A little expensive but runs great. I have thrown out the steel tank and have gone to plastic.
