USCG regulations. Yes, it's necessary for that.

i agree that is the rules, so agree to yes....

with that said. i wonder what the rules are and how the apply to older boats. for instance. my '75 has no anti siphon valve, nor a few other real major safety items specifically a fuel pump that drains back to the carb. for a ruptured diaphram. best i can tell, this is the way my boat came from the oem in '75.
so does it meet the rules..... i don't know....certainly not todays rules... maybe it depends on the year of mfg.? or maybe your supposed to keep you boat up to date with the rules? though i don't see that in the rules....

on the anti siphon valve. i know i've heard a non tech (salesman) at the dealer i go to talk of removing anti siphon valves. i know he didn't say that though... ;)

If the fuel pumps inlet is above the fuel tanks pickup, then you don't need it.

If the fuel pumps inlet is below the fuel tanks pickup, then yes you need it.

If you understand the concept then you already know why you need it.

There is nothing to be gained removing it. Replacing an old gunked up one with a pretty new one can help things, but why remove it completely?????

As for regs applying to older boats - they are typically written as "from this date forward", so technically you are OK, but it is never wrong to be "better" than is required.

that's the way i assumed it to be..
but it is never wrong to be "better" than is required.
