So I figured I would post this for anyone that has been considering the conversion.
I have a 1987 Johnson 20hp j20crcur and was wanting to upgrade to a 35hp. So after reading the forums I went and purchased a 35hp carb from a 1983 35hp Johnson. And took the 20hp intake and bored it out to match the carb size. Once it was all installed I upgraded the fuel lines to the 5/16 hoses rebuilt the fuel pump and tuned it.
Just took it out on the lake today and it was flawless!
Before with less weight on the boat and the 20hp the boat would not plane and only went 9mph with 2 people.
After the conversion and with the boat fixed up with an added approx 120 lbs and 2 people the boat planed within about 10 seconds and hit about 28mph! The speed was verified both times with my phone and a gps speed app in similar water conditions!
Completely worth the $50 spent!
Any questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks for your time.
