Alum. paint prep question

So, I was planning on lightly sanding, washing and spot-priming the inside of my tinny before I paint.

#1 is spot priming only the bare spots ok?

#2 is scotch brite ok to use for this purpose instead of sandpaper?

#3 if scotch brite is not ok, then what type of sandpaper should I use for this?

1 - spot priming is fine. Use a quality zinc chromate and do a light spray.

2- No. The Scotch Brite green pads in the grocery store are very rough - similiar to 80# - go to an auto paint store and buy the Scotch Brite finishing pads, either the red type 'A' or gray.

3- See #2

4 - :D

I am also thinking of repainting my aluminum flatboat. Is there a recommended paint or process. This will be my first time delving into the painting relm.

The scotch brite I got are the gray ones from NAPA in an aisle full of body work stuff. I just didn't know if this application was ok and I didn't want to screw it up.

Thanks!
