advice on 1983 trailer

I own a1983 Ebbtide Dyna Trak 162 bass boat.I personally have own it for 5yrs,During this time I have checked the bearings and always grease the bearing buddies before each trip.Ive had no problems so far, my springs look fine and the shackles are snug.My question is when should I be concerned about the axle its self.I have talked to people who have had axles snap while traveling down the road! Being my trailer is 28yrs old should I buy a new axle at this time just to be safe or am I long over do. thanks for any input .CHRIS

Is there a concern about the condition, rust, cracked welds or is it just the age of the trailer? If it isn't heavily rusted or been sitting in salt water then pull the hubs, check the bearing surface of the axle and clean and check the areas where the spindles are welded. If all looks good then I wouldn't worry about it just because of it's age.
