92' johnson temp. question

Hi guys, I have a 1992 johnson 6 horse. I have it running good but I noticed I can only touch the motor and keep my hand there for 3 or 4 seconds before I have to pull it away. I have a good strong stream of water coming out of the pee hole but it seems way too hot. I know on my older 70's motors I can hold my hand there for ever w/o it getting hot enough to move it. My question is, is there a reason it would get hot like that or are these newer motors meant to be hot for e.p.a. reasons. I was thinking that mt thermostat might not be opening. Any help would be great. Dutch

Re: 92' johnson temp. question

It is quite likely just fine. It has a thermostat to keep it hot and your 70's motors probably didn't have a thermostat at all.
