86' Force 50hp No Fire

I bought a Bayliner Capri with a 50 hp Force about 6 yrs ago.When I got it it started right up but wasn't "peeing" so I shut it down and put it in the barn.Last year I decided to try to get it goin so I replaced the impeller but once completed when I tried to start to test I couldn't get fire to either plug I narrowed it to the coils...My question is do these coils just go bad sitting or did somebody swap them out, or hook the battery up wro g? I thought maybe someone pulled a fast one on me because these coils run about $120*140 a piece!
