81 merc tilt pump problem

A friend has a 81 merc with a 470 the tilt pump had a cobbed plumbing job.the thing blew an line, which we replaced with the correct line from a merc dealer . now the problem is the relay clicks put the pump doesnt actuate. it is full of oil is there a low level safety switch there is 12v power thru the solonoid and the circuit breaker on the pump assy. it worked before the line was replaced also the linkage is in the neuteral.any ideas. thanks

Is it a soleniod clicking and the pump not running? If so the solenoid is bad.You can test it by jumping a wire across the solenoid and the motor should run.Red (hot) to heavy blue or green coming out of motor.There is no low level switch.

yea tried the solinoid bypass gig earlier. actually used volt meter to determin voltage. will use a jumper to insure the max amperage is getting thru.

Hey we found the problem yesterday. there was a tan colored 18 awg wire hanging down beside the pump. turned out it need to be connected to the pump housing in order to work. darn gremlins.. works great for now!
