78' Merc 20 Lower unit

I have a freind that has 78' merc who's lower unit is FUBAR due to the prop twisting its way into the lower unit housing. He bought a rebuilt unit for $150 from a dealer and it shifts the opposite of his original unit. Another budy of ours took the new unit apart and it's clocked differently then the original. Before the dismantle he tried to collect on the guaruntee and basically got no results. Does anyone have a rebuilt unit for a 78' Merc? How do we get around this problem. The repair shop is folding. I hope it is this easy....Put it back together. at the control, switch the gear cable from the top cable stay to the lower (thus changing the shift direction).<br /><br />You may have to replace the prop too, if it came with one.<br />Let me know if it works, because I have never dealt with that problem...But the gear cable CAN be reversed at the control.
