Yep, rainy here this morning though it's supposed to clear up later in the day. I would save the guide money and just use a square up against the transom, doesn't even have to be a 'real' square, anything with a 90degree corner will work just fine...butt one edge up against the transom and use the other edge as your guide...least that's my plan{said the guy with empty pockets..lol}

In the end I probably will end up just using the square and eyeballing it. If I can find the guide I may just use it and take it back :)

Got the back and sides of the transom epoxied. Tomorrow the front gets done and that's it for the transom prep. You can also see the quarter inch bevel across the top of the transom.

Took somemore pics of the old transom as a reference. The one section of rot went right through where the transucer mount was leaking.

I also took some pics of my handywork on the bow of the where I filled the gaps with epoxy, used Interprotect 2000E and then the VC performance epoxy. Doesn't look like any water will be getting through there.

My rollers are also crap and need to be replaced. I posted on the trailer side to see what the best non marking keel rollers are. My rollers have deformed in spots and are down to the 5/8 inch rod inside them.

Also wondering if these guide rollers should be touching the hull.

Sanded down the drips and what not of epoxy on my gunwale supports. The white stuff if the epoxy dust. I'll cut the speaker holes and hit then with another coat of epoxy this weekend.

The belt sander is the cat's *** when it comes to the wood work.

Hey Sprintst, moving right along I see...I'm getting after my transom today, need to fill a couple holes and coat the inside with gluvit first though.

The bunks should support most of the weight, the rollers are used for guidance and should just barely touch{ie:not much weight on them}. ;) something I learned from here ;):D

Gave the transom a coat of epoxy today and it goes in tomorrow. I'll 4200 or 5200 the bolts in and snug it up. The rear cap will go on on Sunday.

It will either be a joyous day or there will be a lot of f'n language. I'm also picking up another quart of Gluvit for the last of the rear end rivets under the engine area.

Here's the transom getting one last coat of epoxy. Anyone need any plywood. Here's a flat of 3/4 inch used for building granite countertops. Here's a shot of the quanset hut used for storing granite slabs and additional workspace.

Stopped off at BoatCraft in Edmonton to pickup some Gluvit as he is closed on Mondays. Here are some shots of the back of his shop where he makes custom kayaks and canoes, cargo canoes, etc. He uses a old cnc machine that cuts out all the wood and makes kits for building them. Take a look at his site and order a kit if you are in the market for one. Ships worldwide.

More BoatCraft pics. http://www.boatcraft.com/Products.shtml

Some shots of the square used to drill my transom bolt holes and the drill bits. Turned out perfectly as I was sweating it for nothing. Drilled the holes as it was mounted in the boat.

Re: 77 Starcraft Holiday 18 i/o - rebuild with pics galore

Here is the transom all bolted back in. The holes came out perfectly. Squirted some 4200 in the holes and theaded then in with an extra little bit added under the heads.

Tomorrow I'll have to sand the top down with a belt sander as it was slightly high in a couple of spots. We held the transom in place and dropped it in but didn't quite center first crack. We lifted it slightly and I pried it with a small prybar to get the whole left right thing down. Give it a slight tap on a block of wood with a hammer and it bottomed out perfectly in the groves.

Used all stainless steel bolts and screws.

I also coated the rear cap supports in epoxy tonight. Here's some shot of them before I got to them.

I procrastinated on doing the transom as I was making a big deal out of it in my head. It wasn't that bad at all.

Tomorrow the rear cap goes back on with the trim with any luck. My oldest has soccer practise so part of it may end up getting done on Monday.

Nice progress Sprintst, I keep talking about getting my transom in, but weather and a ^~$#@ toothache have been a handy excuse. Glad the hole drilling worked out fine{always makes me nervous}...won't be long now, can ya hear the waves slapping the hull ;):D

Now it's just money for Durabak, wiring, upholstery, building the engine cover, cleaning out some more contact cement, finishing epoxying and glassing the deck, mounting speakers, electronics, etc.

Barely anything left to do :)

Yeah I didn't want to go through all the work and expense on the transom lumber and bugger it up by messing up the holes. It was the easiest thing done so far :)

Also made the mounting plate backing slightly larger that even if I buggered up centering it then there is enough leeway to hit it.

Hey sprintst,
Nice progress.
That transom is looking good and should last a long time. Those
kayaks and canoes kits look pretty interesting too.
Nice work.
