73 88 SPL no water

First question does it have a "pee hole" if so where is it. I pulled the hoses off the thermostat housing and they look dry. Next step is the water pump. Then start with the hoses off to see it I get water that far. Then if so go next to the thermostats. Why all the springs and check valves??????

Can you post the model number off the serial plate? OMC did not make an 88 special in 1973. The 88 specials started in 1987. The telltales started with model year 1978.
