I am replacing a Horizon 600 windlass and am considering the Lewmar Profish series to replace. Other than the increased pulling power, is there any advantage of a 1000 over a 700 ? Also does anyone know if there is change from a 2011 model 1000 to a 2012 model.? A couple sites are offering the 2011 model for about $250.00 less in closeout

If the Horizon 600 did the job, then a new 700 will be fine. If it didn't, I'd probably skip right up to a 1000. The advantage of a 1000 is, as you said, more power. More power comes at a cost, tho- more current (amperage) required to operate the thing.

I doubt that anyone here can tell you if the 2012 Lewmar 1000 differs from the 2011- relatively few 'iboaters' even have windlasses. Mine is the original Simpson-Lawrence 400 that came with the boat. It works but pulling power is marginal. I'd like to upgrade too but can't justify the cost.

Have you compared specs between the 2011 and 2012 models? That's the only way you're gonna find out, unless you contact Lewmar or visit a local dealer.

I believe the new 1000's come with the "Fall Safe" feature. Mine is a 2010 and I have to use a safety strap to prevent accidental deployment of the anchor.
