Hi Folks,
Just got our first boat, '68 Steincraft 14' with 40 Johnson. Wouldn't shift to forward from the start, took lower unit apart, everything looks good. Replaced worn shift cable and made up some shims to tighten loose coupler connections. Have had the "welded" lock lever off, looks like it was repaired properly. Wondering what proper adjustment of this lever is, and how critical it may be to my problem. Had our first run yesterday, had to trick it into forward by playing with shifter back and forth, seemed fine for a one hour run around but when I slowed down it popped out of gear and would not not stay back in.
