One note of caution on removing and reinserting the shift linkage screw. My Seloc manual says that it is easy to strip clamp when putting the screw in so be careful if you did remove it.

If water is just spurting out the hole on the top of the motor, you definately need to change the impellor, I have a 69 model and when running it looks like you have the sink fauce on. That is how yours should look too. Since you have the lower unit down go ahead and change the impellor. It is cheap and could save you alot of money in the future.
