Hi, I've rebuilt the carb on my outboard. I have it idling well, but I'm not sure it's at the proper idle RPM. The repair manual says it should idle at 750 RPM. I have a digital multimeter with an engine RPM feature, but I don't think it will work on a 2 cycle engine because there's no coil or distributor to hook it up to. Is that correct? What do I need to use for a tachometer? Or am I getting too picky about the idle speed? It idles low and smooth, with no hesitation or sputtering/stalling. I'm curious how others do it?

Yeah, don't get picky. Anybody that thinks that motor will idle consistantly at the same rpm each time out is living in a dream world. If it idles smooth and reasonable by ear, don't worry about it. In fact I doubt that I've ever set the idle rpm on one of my own small motors. I just set the throttle by ear for shifting or whatever.
