I have a '97 J6RLEU and a '96 J6SLEDS. Both have the same leak on the top of the thermostat cover. I removed the cover, cleaned everything thoroughly, and installed new gasget (a complicated o-ring). I put things back together, but the
leak returned; first, steam and then water: but the leak stopped when the thermostat opened. The cover is plastic with a very
thin section at the top to hold the o-ring in place. On both motors
this thin section broke and permitted the o-ring to move upward.
I think new covers will just break eventually. What to do?
